If you are looking for a down and dirty full of action post apocalyptic thriller, you'd best go elsewhere. This book is more than an examination or judgment of the current political-cultural environment in which we have built ourselves. It is an exploration of the potential progression of our country's path should our devolution continue at its current azimuth.
The author warned readers that this book will offend some (as one reviewer found). Actually, it will offend all who read it at some point. If one does more than "skim through it" you will find reason for personal examination. Was that is part of the author's point?
The character naming convention was a bit problematic for me at first. Many are caricatures, I suspect, to provide the reader with the obvious deficiencies of character. I did not like the technique at first, but soon found that it afforded me the opportunity to identify people in my background that mimicked some of the behaviors displayed. Some of the deficiencies, I recognized in myself. That was when I got truly offended... )
The writer does have a diverse vocabulary, so keep a dictionary or thesaurus handy. It took me a while to figure it out, but some of the author's naming convention display a sense of humor. Also grab an urban dictionary. You might find it as funny as I did. Pay attention though. Words have meaning in this story.
That does lead me to one factor I found disappointing. The editing was substandard. Spellcheck won't find missing or the wrong use of similar words. Have someone read it and they will see what writer does not.
The author appears to have done his homework and therefore describes, in minute detail, mindset, motivations and behaviors of the characters. There are times when I found that the detail slowed the story too much, but like I said, if you are looking for an action thriller, go elsewhere.
One reviewer made the author's point. Due to his preconceived notions and prejudices, he proscribed not reading the book but instead we should "think". I prefer to read and think, thank you.
Acting on uninformed opinions based on skimming information and avoiding things we find uncomfortable has placed our nation at its current precipice.
I suppose I must be considered more liberal than conservative, since I believe in the right of all individuals to think for themselves rather than have their ideas dictated by some political agenda. And, after quickly skimming through this book I must admit that, yes, I found it full of surprises - surprises stemming from the ability of anyone at all to buy into the bigotry, the hatred, the lies and innuendo filling its pages. It reads as if it were written by an individual named T****, publishing under a pseudonym. A lot of "big" words thrown around - although I doubt the author knows what even a small fraction of them mean. I will not waste my time with a more in-depth reading - and I recommend that any rational, free-thinking person do the same, and relegate it to the 'discard' pile. That's my free choice; make your own - but above all, THINK!
